Tips for a Healthy Pregnancy

Prenatal care is vital. For the sake of the baby’s health and yours, please make prenatal care a priority.


 
 EATING FOR TWO. During pregnancy, you and your baby need vitamins, minerals and healthy calories. Try to eat whole grain products, vegetables, fruits, protein foods, and milk and milk products.
  •  Drink plenty of water! If you can, try to drink 6 to 8 glasses of water each day. Avoid or limit caffeine-containing beverages such as coffee, tea and sodas. 
     
  • When you are pregnant, most health care providers recommend you take a prenatal multivitamin containing the recommended amounts of vitamins, including folic acid. 
     
  • DON’T drink alcohol!  Even small amounts of alcohol can harm your unborn baby. There is no "safe" level of alcohol consumption when you're pregnant.

WEIGHT GAIN. The average woman gains between 25 and 35 pounds during pregnancy. You should talk with your doctor about what is right for you.
 
EXERCISE. Just as when you are not pregnant, exercise is important when you are pregnant too! Moderate exercise is recommended daily.Always check with your doctor before beginning an exercise routine.
